morning. philadelphia is 47 degrees. it has dropped to 40 in the pennsylvania suburbs. look at the 30s now for south jersey. sunshine will be bright this morning. we're starting to see the skies brighten up. 38 degrees in lehigh valley and 44 degrees in delaware. these temperatures will be climbing. pennsylvania suburbs will warm into the low 50s by 9:00. you can see the skies are brightening up. yardley, 64 degrees and mostly sunny skies early this afternoon. during the afternoon, the temperatures go even warmer. 75 for philadelphia. that's up 4 degrees compared to yesterday. 70s across the board. the one exception will be the coast. jersey shore, 67 degrees. you'll see plenty of sunshine there. what you won't see today is any rain. but the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen does have some rain in it. i'll detail when you expect the first drops to fall when i come back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching your first alert traffic.

how is it looking out there? >> we've had a busy morning. we're on 422 right now where we're seeing only the right shoulder getting by. now with the sun coming up, it's a little easier to see what's going on right now. we have a few vehicles involved in the accident. some are cleared out of the way. other vehicles actually over into the center ditch right in here or the center median. we have a tow truck there on the scene trying to pull this guy out. in the meantime, it is blocking off the eastbound lanes, only creating some delay here with the right lane getting by. with that police activity there on the scene, this is right around 1st avenue. we are seeing delays there. no gaper delay westbound on the other side. an accident on chester pike around gardner avenue to watch out for. and that emergency construction on the delaware memorial bridge still active this morning. we have two right lanes open heading into delaware instead of the only one yesterday. yesterday we had about two-hour delays. you want to avoid those. leave earlier. you're going to see delays on 295 and the turnpike.

of life for ed snyder, we'll have live coverage beginning at 1:00 this afternoon. six minutes past 6:00 right now. three of the presidential candidates will make swings through our region today. >> they'll be stumping for votes ahead of the primaries next tuesday. bernie sanders will be in oaks montgomery county tonight. donald trump will host a rally in arrest burg tonight, and he'll appear at another rally in kent county tomorrow. hillary clinton's campaign is hoping her two appearances in philadelphia yesterday will boost her support in the upcoming p.a. primary. the democratic front runner met with mothers of gun crime victims in north philadelphia. then she held a rally in fishtown. her campaign hopes they keep the momentum going after her new york primary victory. clinton talked about gun reform, mentioning shootings that happened last week in philadelphia.

>> a police officer shot. and the story that was just so heartbreaking with the father handling his gun, and it went off and killed his 4-year-old daughter. >> police escorted several demonstrators out of clinton's rally. they were protesting a crime bill signed by her husband president bill clinton back in the 1990s. a lot is at stake for candidates on both sides in next week's primary contest. >> let's take a look first at pennsylvania. 189 delegates up for grabs for the democrats. for the republicans, the winner will get 17 at-large delegates, but voters will also choose 54 unbound delegates. in delaware, 16 delegates are at stake for the republicans, 21 for the democrats. for complete coverage of decision 2016, including updates from the campaign trail and everything you need to know ahead of our local primaries, just head to the nbc 10 app.

counselors will be on hand when school is reopened today in mercer county following a two-delay closure to mourning the death of a school superintendent. a car hit and killed dr. steven mayer while he was jogging with his dog tuesday morning. police say the 17-year-old driver stopped at the scene. there will be a public memorial service for dr. mayer tomorrow in princeton. in delaware county, bonner and prendergast catholic high schools will operate on a normal schedule today just a day after police found a gun inside a student's locker. administrators got a tip that a student brought a gun and drugs to school yesterday. the school was put on lockdown as police searched the building. officers also found bullets and marijuana. getting ready for some sunshine today. in fact, bright sunshine is just minutes away. that's a live view from cape

may. we'll see lots of sunshine like yesterday. a breezy and warmer day ahead. that will blow a few clouds in later on today. the warmup comes with winds out of the southwest, 16-mile-an-hour winds this afternoon. a bit stronger in wilmington. we could see gusts up to 30 miles an hour. that's going to keep the pollen levels elevated today. tomorrow they'll come down a little bit as some rain moves through the area. then it will be drying out over the weekend, and they'll be coming right back up. the temperatures will be coming up during the day. look at the quick warmup from 57 degrees at 9:00 this morning. 70 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon. that's in philadelphia. in the suburbs, 71 degrees. by 5:00, a few more clouds later in the day. the lehigh valley, completely dry, even though there will be scattered clouds at times. enough sunshine to warm temperatures in the lower 70s. we'll see low 70s after a cool morning in the 50s for delaware and south jersey. winds at the shore with

sunshine, 64 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon. by 5:00, still in the lower 60s at the shore. showers out of the picture for today, but you can see them to the west. they're moving into the ohio valley. a few scattered showers in central pennsylvania coming well in advance of the main part of that system, which is due in here during the day tomorrow. so we do finally have a chance for some rainfall coming in. today, dry. tomorrow, showers and thunderstorms. but it won't be an all-day rainfall. we'll have showers in the morning and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. 80 degrees the high temperature tomorrow. at the jersey shore, a warmup there too. not quite as warm but still pretty good. 77 degrees, southwesterly winds warming the shore. the chance of showers continues into early saturday. not going to see a wet weather on saturday. drying out as we get into sunday with plenty of sun sheshineunsh. temperatures, more warm days and cool ones too. you'll see it on the ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. >> thank you, bill.

6:10. we have sky force 10 up in the air. we're going to make a habit of giving you regular updates on the delaware memorial bridge. >> right, because of the construction going on. jessica boyington has been watching it for you this morning. >> it's really important to pay attention to this also because yesterday around this time we were okay. traffic was moving through. suddenly out of november where, all traffic was at a standstill. there were about 2 1/2-hour delays behind the scene. we're showing you live what's happening on the delaware m memorial bridge. the only good thing is now we have two lanes open to traffic heading into delaware from new jersey. yesterday we only had one. we may see a little bit of relief there. we will see some delays for sure on to 295 and the new jersey turnpike. there's also construction on the turnpike that's going to set people back just a little bit for your alternate, take the

commodore barry. we also saw big delays yesterday as well. your best bet is to give yourself a lot of extra time this morning. here's 422 around 1st avenue. this vehicle stuck into the center median there. the tow truck on scene. we only have the right lane getting by. now big delays there. this has been there for about two hours or so with this police activity. we have pen-dot crews there. they have cones and road flares. a slow go by the scene headed eastbound on 422. vai? >> yeah, and as jessica just mentioned, this might tax frustrations. it's going to be a while on the delaware memorial bridge. >> it sure is. this is what it looked like yesterday. we'll tell you how long you can expect these traffic tie-ups near the bridge because of those emergency repairs. plus, suspected sabotage. verizon says someone is cutting cables at dozens of locations across pennsylvania and new jersey.

democrat josh shapiro an attorney general...for us it's 16 minutes past 6:00 right now. nbc 10 gets answers. >> we asked philadelphia's d.a. why a man suspected of shooting a philadelphia police officer this week was out on the street at all. earlier that week, nbc 10 uncovered documents showing scott griffin was released on gun charges after witnesses failed to show up to testify against him. griffin is accused of shooting and wounding officer james mccullough in west philadelphia five days later. authorities released scott griffin when two witnesses did not testify in his gun case. we asked seth williams yesterday why a man with a long rap sheet was allowed back on the streets with a gun. williams talked about the larger city problem of witness and victim intimidation and says he's used secret grand juries

when necessary. >> we're trying to do all that we can every day to ensure that fewer cases are being discharged for lack of prosecution and fewer cases are being discharged for lack of evidence. >> williams says he's met with officer mccullough and his family. he's also assigned a veteran prosecutor to the case. it's 6:17 right now and 46 degrees outside. let's get you out the door and check on the roads. >> jessica boyington, what's happening on 422? >> still by delays because of this accident around 1st avenue headed eastbound. this vehicle is still into the center median there, in the grassy area. you can see it crashed through this fence. a few moments ago, we had most of the lanes blocked because of this tow truck spanning over the length, the width of the road headed eastbound. now some delays. they did move it over into more of the left-hand lane. now we have one lane getting through. still, police officers reason scene and still that vehicle over into the ditch. don't see this clearing any time

soon. we're also watching the rest of our majors, of course. the schuylkill expressway doing okay. we're seeing slowdowns on 95. heading into centre city, southbound, 19 minute trip. no problems on the blue route right now. here's the new jersey turnpike. this is around the delaware memorial bridge. at this time yesterday, we were starting to see big delays. right now, no problems. still, be aware of the delaware memorial bridge construction. only two lanes getting into delaware this morning. now let's check the nbc first alert neighborhood weather. it's a forecast you won't get anywhere else. >> the focus is on specifically where you live and what you need to know about the weather forecast in your neighborhood. bill? >> things are looking good this morning. look at this. we have some sunshine. the sun is coming up. it's a live view from centre city. warming trend will start today. you see some scattered, thin clouds. sunshine will be bright. we have a chilly morning. grab a jacket if you're heading

out the door right now. a breezy and warmer day today. the winds will be picking up this afternoon. the clouds take over tonight, and we'll be on our way to much-needed rainfall starting tomorrow. you can see that with the seven-day forecast. so far this morning, we've seen the temperatures drop. 30s for the lehigh valley. pennsylvania suburbs, 40 degrees right now. delaware is in the middle 40s. south jersey, 37 degrees. and still falling even though it's just after sunrise. 38 degrees in mt. laurel. a cooler start this morning. with bright sunshine, we will see a quick warmup during the day today. millville, partly to mostly sunny skies, 71 degrees this afternoon. a little cooler for wildwood, 68 degrees. the wind picking up during the afternoon. 70 degrees for atlantic city with partly to mostly sunny skies.

middle 70s for trenton. definitely warmer than yesterday. philadelphia also into the middle 70s today. looks like nice weather ahead for today. there's a double header tonight. starts at 5:05. 73 degrees this afternoon. harrington up to 74. we'll have some scattered clouds. we won't see any rainfall today. the radar shows all of the wet weather is to the west. that changes tomorrow morning with the clouds taking over tonight. we'll be looking at showers first thing tomorrow morning. the wet weather, well, it's going to be scattered tomorrow. by late tonight, it'll be in western pennsylvania. that's at 9:00 this evening. the showers overnight will move into our area. light to moderate showers are possible first thing in the morning for some of the pennsylvania suburbs and into the lehigh valley. that's at 8:00 tomorrow morning. not an all-day rainfall, but during the afternoon and evening commute. that's when we'll get some steadier rain and possibly some thunderstorms. look at that line of showers

moving through southern delaware. that'll keep moving, but there's still another possibility of showers early saturday morning. that does not mean a washout for the weekend. in fact, we'll be drying out over the weekend. dry today, warmer than yesterday. 75 degrees this afternoon. the ten-day outlook takes us up to 80 degrees tomorrow with showers and thunderstorms on and off during the day. they come to an end early on saturday. a breezy 70 degrees on saturday. less wind, lots of sunshine. sunday living up to its name at 70 degrees. look at the warmup ahead for monday, 78 degrees. another round of much-needed rainfall starts moving in tuesday, wednesday, and possibly thursday. that will level our temperatures out into the middle 60s, which is pretty typical for this time of year. turning warmer on friday. 70 degrees. a chance of showers but even warmer next saturday, up to 75. your ten-day outlook at least once per half hour. tracy? >> bill, thanks. it's 6:21. verizon says it has seen a spike in suspected sabotage since

thousands of workers walked off the job last week. >> yeah, the company reports 24 cases of wire cutting, including seven in pennsylvania, 11 in new jersey. among the locations, which you can see on this map, are philadelphia, cochranville, medford, and willingboro. cut cables and damage to verizon network facilities have affected hundreds of customers. verizon says it finds the timing of the vandalism suspicious but fell short of blaming any of the 39,000 workers on the picket lines. >> acts like this, you know, they're not fun and games. they're reckless, they're malicious, and they're dangerous. >> the unions wouldn't condone it, our members wouldn't do t and the only thing i can say is if the company is having these issues, it's because they have unqualified people there to deal with these issues. >> verizon and union workers are locked in a contract dispute over job security, working conditions, and compensation. no new talks are scheduled at this point. 6:22 right now. be careful what you post online because it could get you fired.

60s for the shore. look at the 70s for philadelphia and the pennsylvania suburbs. dry conditions today, but there is wet weather ahead. you may have noticed it with the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. i'll talk about that rain, take a closer look at the futurecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, jessica boyington is dealing with a little sun glare. >> a little sun glare in parts of cherry hill and definitely on parts of 95 if you're headed northbound away from the city. we're also watching this accident scene right now around 422. it's been here for a few hours now. this vehicle still into the center median. several emergency crews on the scene trying to get this situation under control. we have only the right lane squeezing by. now we're starting to see some delays past the scene. no big delays headed westbound. we are seeing some delays for route 102. septa inbound for equipment problems. some 10 to 15-minute delays there. the rest of mass transit doing

just fine. still watching that emergency construction on the delaware memorial bridge. two right lanes are open heading into delaware this morning. yesterday we only had one, so we may see a little bit of relief this morning. it may be a little better, but still plan on being stuck for a little bit. get out the door early. >> all right. thank you, jessica. that emergency construction on the delaware memorial bridge that jessica was just talking about is expected to cause backups again today. >> crews are working to fix cables on the suspension bridge. nbc 10's pamela osborne is in pensville, salem county, where we're already starting to see some backup there. bring us up to speed, pam. >> reporter: tracy, vai, good morning to you. what we're seeing right now is an increase in the amount of cars on the road. you can see things are moving pretty smoothly at the moment. there is a point where you get out there a little in the distance where you can see police flashing lights. some of those restrictions taking place. i want to give you a look overhead.

this is sky force 10 chopper video showing you the conditions that we're seeing right now. again, things moving pretty smoothly at the moment. quite different from what we saw yesterday. you didn't even have to be on the delaware memorial bridge to get tied up in some of the traffic there. side streets and on-ramps leading up to the bridge were gridlocked on the new jersey side heading into delaware as traffic was restricted. as jessica said, one lane yesterday. some of the drivers we spoke to said they were stuck for hours. >> catastrophe. >> horrible. >> madness. >> one hour, like 300 yards. >> gave no indication of the kind of time that it would take to even come this distance. i'm a little aggravated about that. >> reporter: well, now you have a bit of a heads up today. this morning, only two lanes will be open. here is why. crews went to make a repair on a vertical suspension. while they were doing that, they discovered there were a couple other ropes that were

compromised and in need of immediate attention. so not the kind of thing you want to put off. >> over 200 cables on each bridge. we're talking about three cables. for us to be able to do this in an efficient manner, we have to limit the weight on the bridge so we can address the cables. >> reporter: and if you're traveling the delaware memorial bridge, keep in mind the two left lanes will be closed, and the speed limit is 35 miles per hour. it's really important that you want to follow those reduced speeds because this is what is going on around you. you may not be able to see the work being done from on the bridge, but it is happening, and it's happening in some tricky spots. workers say they're moving as quickly as possible. also keep in mind if you're going southbound, you may see some delays as well. >> some technical issues there.

the flyers finally winning at home, keeping alive their quest for the cup. game five will be in washington tomorrow night. a scary moment for forward scott laughton, who fell after he was checked last night, slammed his head up against the boards right there. the team says he spent the night at jefferson hospital for precautionary reasons. this afternoon at the wells fargo center, players, alumni, and fans will honor founder ed snyder, who died last week. nbc 10 will air the service beginning live at 1:00. and the eagles now have the second pick in the nfl draft. pretty amazing. >> and the team appears to be looking for a new franchise quarterback. the eagles announced the trade with the cleveland browns yesterday. they gave up several draft picks to get that second overall pick. quarterback sam bradford is still their starter, but the trade suggests the team is setting their sights on north dakota state quarterback carson wentz. many experts think he's the best quarterback in the draft. speaking of next week's draft,

low 60s by 11:00, then 70 degrees at 3:00 this afternoon. that's a 14-mile-an-hour wind blowing this afternoon. for the lehigh valley, the temperatures will be climbing there too. a little cooler, 38 degrees right now. 53 degrees at 9:00. by 5:00 this afternoon, 71 degrees. that's when we'll see those southwesterly winds continuing. some of the coldest temperatures this morning have been in south jersey. now 35 degrees, clear skies, calm conditions, and that's when the temperatures really fall. look at the wind kicking in by 1:00 in the afternoon. that's a 15-mile-an-hour wind blowing in south jersey. we'll see that also at the jersey shore, where the temperatures will be running a little cooler into the 60s this afternoon with those winds gusting to possibly 30 miles an hour this afternoon. for delaware, sunshine to start with, and it's cool to start with. not really cold this morning. 44 degrees. the wind at 11 miles an hour. at 11:00 this morning, that's a 16-mile-an-hour wind blowing

10. just to kind of give you a better idea of how things are moving once you actually get on to the bridge. keep in mind these delays are nothing like we saw yesterday. again, traffic moving pretty well. the difficulty is crews are working to repair some suspension ropes that needed emergency repair. so keep in mind if you're headed out this way, the lanes are restricted down to two lanes. the speed limit, only 35 miles per hour this morning. i'm going to send things back into the studio with traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> hey, pamela. yeah, we are seeing a little bit less of an increase in that volume this morning because we have two lanes open heading into delaware this morning. yesterday we only had one. it was an unexpected thing. so a lot of people are going to head out the door this morning a little earlier and take the alternate, which is the commodore barry bridge. take 95 and head south toward

bethlehem's music festival in august. tickets go on sale next friday. it's a chilly start this morning. we have 30s in south jersey and the lehigh valley. not much different in the pennsylvania suburbs. the temperatures have dropped to 36 degrees in unionville. all these numbers will be climbing. that 36 in doylestown will climb into the 70s this afternoon. it will be warmer than it was yesterday. and we'll enjoy lots of sun hien. look at the sunshine coming up in the lehigh valley. temperatures will come up nicely in delaware. as the morning progresses, we'll see that sunshine take over. from the 40s to the 50s, into the 60s, heading into the 70s this afternoon. in fact, everybody is going to wind up a bit warmer than yesterday. that bright sunshine to start with, a few clouds late in the day. completely dry today. the chance of showers, we haven't had much rain since really the beginning of march. but we will get some showers finally in the area for tomorrow. the numbers go even warmer
